Hi everyone,
This is a song I received last night from my best friend back in South Africa and since then I have not stopped listening to this band or this single. This is very much the total antithesis of yesterday’s happy clappy tune but sometimes it’s nice to get some dark and gloomy music. Just every now and again.
The band is called Daughter – and if you want to be in the know of up and coming big talent (in the alternative scene) then place your bets here. There is something haunting in her melodies that enters somewhere private whether you like it or not. It’s a very broody and grated sound.
There is not much talk yet of this band but from the searching that I did I find out this band is made up of Elena Tonra (only 21) and her musical and romantic partner Igor Haefeli. Not exactly sure what is the status of their relationship but we hope she does not sing about him considering her slightly depressive take on relationship.
I find her lyrics a very refreshing way of saying something very cliché and we forgive her for being overly dramatic (myself being a dramatic). And the delivery is simple yet very effectively blended and constructed with the correct pauses after powerful lines.
So enough chatting here is Youth from their recent EP The Wild Youth.
