Winterthurer Musikfeswochen is a music festival held every year in Winterthur. It hosted numerous rock stars in the past like Green Day, Foo Fighters and Radiohead in 1995. This year the festival celebrates its 40th birthday with a big programme which runs from the 12 to the 23 August. Unfortunately Winterthur is a bit out of the way for me, otherwise I would go every day as they offer a free programme with many great Swiss artists like Peter Kernel, James Gruntz and Yellow Teeth, to name only a few. From Friday 21 August to Sunday 23 August there are some international bands playing among which Beatsteaks and Seasick Steve for which you need to buy tickets.
On Sunday 23 August I will have the pleasure to attend what is expected to be a great folk evening with Ben Howard, preceded by Villagers and by Fink. It is certainly going to be soulful as these three artists have the ability to get straight to your heart with their music.
Villagers is a folk band from Ireland captained by the talented singer/songwriter Conor O’Brien. Their album {Awayland} was nominated for a Mercury Prize. They are back in 2015 with the album Darling Arithmetic which I am looking forward to hear live in Winterthur!
Fink, aka Fin Greenall, started his career in 1997 as an electronic music DJ and since 2006 he’s been unveiling his talents as a folk singer/songwriter. His last album Hard Believe, released in 2014 is the one which gave him more recognition so far.
I guess that by now Ben Howard does not need to be introduced anymore, he is one of our favourite artists here on The Liberation. I saw him twice already, the last time it was in November in Zürich, and I’m looking forward to plunge myself into his magnificent music and attend one more of his gigs. I wonder if he’s going to play more songs from his old record or if he is going to privilege I Forget Where We Were as he did last time. I’ll find the answer next Sunday, can’t wait! In any case, I’m sure it’s going to be memorable!
